Brendan Courtney is president of two specialty recruiting divisions of SFN Group (NYSE:SFN). The Mergis Group is a leading professional placement firm that specializes in search and recruitment for positions in finance and accounting, engineering and manufacturing, sales and marketing, legal and human resources. Todays Office Professionals is a premier provider of administrative and office professional placement, delivering a unique candidate and client experience.

Courtney assumed leadership of these complementary businesses in November 2008. The two specialty recruiting and staffing brands have similar business models, similar go-to-market strategies and similar value propositions for clients and candidates. Both focus almost exclusively on opportunities in local and regional markets. Both specialize in professional skills, with crossover in three key areas: finance and accounting, HR and legal.

Courtney has more than 20 years of professional recruiting experience, with particular emphasis in the accounting and finance, banking, IT and HR professions. He joined SFN Group as a vice president in 1998 with responsibility for strategic planning, sales and operations for multiple professional recruiting offices in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. In 2006, he assumed leadership of the company’s professional services group, which specialized in recruiting and staffing in technology, finance and accounting and other professional skill sets. Two years later, he was promoted to a corporate role as senior vice president for corporate development and field operations. In this position, Courtney led all acquisition integration and process improvement initiatives for the company.

Courtney previously worked with A.J. Burton, a professional recruiting firm which was acquired by SFN Group in 1998.

A member of the Association for Corporate Growth, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University.
